Chris enjoys shooting a variety of hunting tools, be it slingshots, blowguns, atlatls, guns from bb guns to 300 win mags. Let's have fun.
Growing up, we hunted bullfrogs with blowguns and just shot them at leaves, cans, bottles, and had fun. Having fond memories of shooting the blowgun, it was time to return to some of that childhood bliss as an adult. Purchasing the Venom Blowguns® Venom Black blowgun has been a fun and inexpensive choice. I hope that others can share in the fun of shooting a blowgun.
As with any projectile, all persons need to be aware and practice safety to avoid injury to oneself and others. As with firearms safety:
- Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
- Always keep the muzzle in a safe direction.
- Be sure of your target and what is beyond.
- Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
In the case of a blowgun, keep your mouth off the blow port until you are ready to shoot. Have fun and be safe. Here are five reasons why I suggest others enjoy purchasing this blowgun.
5. Easy to Start
Shooting a blowgun is an easy sport to get into. With the purchase of a blowgun and some darts a person can shoot and work on improving their hand eye coordination and judging distance. These are tasks that are good to have and to continue to improve at. The Velocity Black blowgun is one of the most popular blowguns and with a package price of $20.99 at the time of writing this, it is a great deal. When shooting in any sport being responsible with what one is shooting at, around, and behind needs to be considered and safety is of the utmost responsibility.
4. Indoor and Outdoor
No matter what is happening with the weather, if you have a blowgun and darts you can shoot inside or outside. On a beautiful day, you can be outside shooting and it is something that is simple and others can enjoy even with little to no experience. Teaching friends and family can be great bonding time.
And if the weather is bad outside, people may shoot inside without fear of damaging the interior of a house. With a little planning, a person can use boxes and blankets as a backstop to prevent damage to walls, doors, trim, etc. And there are a variety of objects that can be shot at for target practice. A piece of cardboard with shapes drawn on, paper, soda bottle, even fruits and vegetables.
3. Friendly Competition
In Japan, France, Germany, and an up and coming United States along with other countries there is a foundation of members of or associated with International Fukiyado Association (IFA). This is an association of competitive blowgun target shooting. A great association that has no dues or fees and is very lenient in the format of competition. The sole purpose of this association and affiliate associations is to promote the sport of blowgun shooting. This presents the option for community competitions in a growing sport that is easy and inexpensive to enter and enjoy.
2. Primitive Skill
Learning a primitive skill can be fun and interesting. This is the main method that some tribes use to hunt with. It may be hard to believe, but with skill and knowledge of a prey's anatomy one can successfully hunt anything from frogs to bears with a blowgun. Tim Wells has several YouTube videos of successfully hunting with a blow gun, here is the video of Tim successfully hunting a black bear with the Tim Wells Signature Blowgun by Cold Steel.
Sometimes the simple things are the most fun things. Shooting a blowgun may not be hard, but mastering it is a challenge - a fun challenge. This is a sport that challenges the individual to improve themselves with an activity that is fun and easy to set courses up. There can be speed challenges, distance, penetration, and so many other challenges to keep shooting the blowgun fun.
Personally, I enjoyed shooting a blowgun as a child and now I have just as much fun if not more fun teaching my daughter how to shoot a blowgun. To watch the joy and excitement on her face when she makes a difficult shot is great. When friends come over, it is simple to show other kids how to shoot a blowgun and they pick up on it quickly. The biggest issue is not having enough blowguns for everyone at times and we own several.
Buying a Blowgun
Buying a blowgun is a way to have easy and inexpensive fun. More people purchase blowguns everyday for recreation and sport. You may be surprised to find out how many people you know own a blowgun. If not, it may be something different that you, your friends, and family may enjoy just because it is something different in your social groups. Whatever the reason you are interested in buying a blowgun, enjoy yourself and be safe.

I think they are fun, some of our friends have six children and when we have them all over for dinner the kids always want to shoot the blowguns. I set a range up in the basement for them to shoot if the weather is bad outside.

When I think of blowguns I think of aboriginal tribes and James Bond Villains for hire :) I'm amazed that there are actually competitions for this. Thanks for an interesting article and for teaching me something new!
